[at-l] Burns hurt - Pepsi Can stove follies

Yep, it is a prescription (Silvadene, Thermazene, silver sufadiazine
cream 1%) and easily obtained in a handy 20 gram tube or 50 gram small
tub. Just go to one of those internet Viagra sites, and they usually
toss in a tube if you complain that you smoke after.... (You know, to
put the fire out.)

I think most of us docs will help supply a hiker with appropriate
medical supplies as part of pre-hike planning. I've had several
discussions about what (if any) antibiotics, analgesics, sleep aids,
anti-acids, diet supplements, orthopedic gear, wound management stuff
and the like with my colleagues. Silvadene can cause low white blood
cell count (about 1 in 5), which is not good in the woods. Taking it
with Tagamet may increase the risk. On the other hand Neomycin can give
you pretty significant kidney injury when absorbed systemically, as
could occur with a burn.

None of these drugs are completely safe (people drown in water every
minute) and you should review your first aid plans with your real world
doctor. I think I'll retreat to my silnylon vestibule and light up a
smoke to calm myself.
