Another thought...
One of the reasons why people choose to hike SOBO is that they are unable to
get out of school until the May/June time frame and therefore would be
somewhat "rushed" if they attempted a NOBO hike. Most of these people would
likely be the younger student crowd (though some might be teachers).
This could easily contribute to the impression (or reality?) that SOBOs tend
to be younger.
