I have been on the hunt for a light, cheap set of sandals to use as camp
shoes for my thruhike this year. My Wal-Mart specials from my 1998 TH
finally fell apart this winter. They were a wonderful 7.5 ounces (mens 9).
After months of disappointing searching I was about to buy a cheap pair of
flipflops (approx 5 ounces). Unfortunately I would not be able to use them
for fords.
Today I hit pay dirt. K-Mart has a sandal weighing in at 8 ounces (mens 9)
for $7.97. There were only 4 pairs left, but one was my size.
Yea...Yea...I know everyone likes Tevas. The new Hurricane is their
lightest sandal at 18 ounces. I also looked at the Teva water socks which
supposedly weigh 9 ounces. I hauled my postal scale into EMS on club day
(they don't have a scale!), and found the 9 ounces must refer to a womans
size 7. A mens 9 weighed in at 14 ounces.
Cheers,
Terry
