[at-l] Trip Report # 2
We arrived at USFS 42 about 10:30. Everyone was a bit surprised that I
wouldn't go to Springer. I didn't want to go there until I am thru hiking.
Can't explain it just didn't want the emotion of being there for the first
time to be sadness because of not being able to thru this year.
Other than hiking up Blood Mountain in January with Ken, Lee I. Joe and
Trooper this was my first time hiking on the AT. The trail to Hawk Mountain
Shelter was nice. Not much scenery but not to hard either. Long Creek Falls
was really nice. We ate dinner there. Putting your feet in the water is
like having ice cream head in your feet. About 4 we arrived at Hawk Mt.
Shelter. Met a lady from Israel named Ve Ve. Great lady. More about her
later. Mark and his 64-year-old mother showed up about 6 and Ve Ve moved on.
In the register we read about a lot of bear activities. Mark (6'5" and 270)
from Mississippi said, "If thaat thar bar comes in this shelter he had better
be shore enuf hungree. I ain't about to give up my grocreees with outa a
fight." We rolled on the ground laughing. They were really great folks.
