[at-l] Weird Email (WARNING - off topic question)

E-Mail Spam

You can receive e-mail spam for a variety of reasons. The most frequent of
course, is that you visited a site where you "registered" and they then sold
your information.

However, there are other more insidious means. You might have visited a site
where you didn't register, but it uploaded a script that sent your e-mail
address back to the site. Or perhaps this was one of the "blind" mailings
where they got your address from an archive somewhere and sent you an e-mail
which was ostensibly meaningless on the surface, but which contained a call
for a graphic on their site, which enabled them to log your address and
confirm it as an "active" e-mail address.

The list is endless. The more time you spend on line, the more of this you
will get.
