This glasses thread once again proves we's all just a little bit different in
how we view the world.
My glasses version. I had great vision till my early forty's, disliked the
feel of glasses so much I never wore sunglasses. After a year or so of all
printed matter looking like early day faxes I was told "welcome to middle
age," and that I had a choice [I'm farsighted and distance vision is still ok
@ sixty]. I could use granny half glasses, I could use glasses just for the
close stuff, I could use bifocals which I would eventually need anyway. I
won't bore with the decision process but I put on the first pair of bifocals
and have worn glasses all day every day since. I adapted to the
walking/steps/looking close then quickly away in a day or two.
Now to the hiking part. I wear light wt. metal frames with plastic lenses ...
No problems on the trails with glasses survivability. I used to carry a spare
pair in a hard case.
I generate alot, a whole lot of heat. When hiking on those very damp or rainy
days with the temps in the low forties or cooler my glasses will get quite
foggy. I have to take them off and I don't like to take them off cause that's
when bad things happen to glasses and ya gotta keep them handy so you can
actually see something close at hand. My approach to this problem was to get
a pair of sports goggles with my bifocal Rx. I carry them as my spare and
wear them if the others start to fog. Unfortunately I have fogged the goggles
a time or two, at least they have a built in holderoner to slip down around
my neck. I either carry a hard case for the regular pair or wrap them in a
bandana and store them in my pot when necessary.

You learn something every day on this list. Thanks GMC, I never thought to
remove my metal framed glasses when flirting with lightening [flirting with
thirty somethings is another story].
