already informed me that he would *joining* me in this little quest -- not
all the way from Troutdale, but from the half-way point at Elk Garden. He
figured that if he hiked in by walking backwards the whole way while
humming Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb", he and I would hit Quincey's at
about the same time, and he would buy the first round. I was up for that,
but asked "why backwards" and he replied that even though he was *walking*
SOBO, he wanted to actually see the trail NOBO. I don't know. Made too
much sense to me.
