[at-l] Miles per day in NC/TN?

Hello...
   Me with another question.  I'm hoping to hike 10 miles per day SOBO in 
May/June around the Erwin area for 6-7 days.  Is this reasonable?  (Never 
been on the AT.)  Also, I never notice anyone mention carrying a sleeping pad
.  Is that a wimp item, or just so standard only dummies like me ask?   
   I think with this info, I can set my schedule, plan my shuttle, pack my 
food and impatiently wait.
