I always get a kick out of people who put "emergency food" into an emergency
pack. We put these things together for Scouts regularly, and yes, food is
generally included. When I ask the boys how soon they would eat in an
emergency, most say at the point they have missed their first meal! When I
tell them they can live for weeks without food, but only for days without
water, they just shrug and say they don't want to be hungry, and the
emergency will probably be over soon anyway.

Interesting the perspective that a 13 year old has on life.
