Sly -
I called ATC --- they're NOT getting out of the 2000-miler business.
And I read the ATN article - and it did NOT say what he apparently read into
it. Once again he's indulging in wishful thinking and making grandiose
plans based on his own fantasies with no regard for reality.

Keep in mind that WF has what he considers to be a "captive audience" on
ATML. From what I've seen and heard he apparently thinks he can brainwash
them into believing that ATC doesn't care about the thruhikers and isn't
qualified to determine who's a thruhiker. Unfortunately he's had some
"success". I've run into one of his worshippers on the CDT list. But he
doesn't want to run into me again - he even told me so.

Bottom line is that even if ATC were to get out of the thruhiker recognition
business, WF doesn't have the right, the responsibility, the authority or
even the knowledge to determine whether or not I'm a thuhiker. And it's
none of his business.

Walk softly,
Jim
