[at-l] First tent question

Hello again, hikers!

I am also almost agonizing over a first tent purchase.

Let me tell you my constraints and then ask for suggestions.

I am 50, female, and don't bend in the middle quite so easily as I used to (lots of padding).

I like the idea of having a real tent, rather than tarp, for 2 reasons. 1, to keep the small flying insects out. 2, to give me a feeling of having my own *room* when out and about by myself but maybe surrounded by other campers. I also like to be able to sit up and have room for my gear in with me.

I borrowed a free-standing tent and used it in an empty shelter in August, but like the idea of the Nomad's light weight, hiking poles, 3 stakes, so am not sure if free-standing is important. But the idea of 8-10 stakes turns me WAY off.

I also suspect I would have a good bit of condensation inside a Nomad. (Don't ask.)

I really had decided to go with the Nomad, and I especially like the newer Nomad because light and breeze are important to me (don't like dark and hot), and probably would be worth the extra charge, especially since cutting down on condensation.

On the other hand, saving bucks is useful, too, as my budget is way limited. The tent is so important to me that I would spend the money there, rather than be unhappy.

Do I sound confused? Welcome to the tent department of my mind.

I don't plan on buying more tents soon, so picking the right one for me is important.

Suggestions???

Thanks,
Delita
