[at-l] St. Patricks Day Hike

Planning a flat 2 mile day hike today down the canyons of Fifth Avenue in NYC along with another 500,000 other* hikers* carrying such items as flags, horns, drums, and for sure bagpipes. There won't be much quiet trail nor serenity but many *warstories* of past hikes especially of those stops at the local *springs*.
Making a stop at a local *hostel* the Chess and Checkers House in Central Park at the 68 St and 5 Ave side of the park for some celebration with the NYC Parks Dept Emerald Society for any NY listers who are planning to hike or just watch at todays hike.
There are no special patches or pins for thru hikers on this trail just much pride as you watch everyone on the side trails just *green* with envy.
I don't think this event will compare to the great event we attended at Punxatawney Pa on Feb 2 to welcome in Phil as guests of BearBag and Sweetpea but we will do our best to live up to the reputation we mostly deserve.
The weather is overcast and rainy which will keep away *amature* hikers only the strong and prepared survive a day like today *out there*.
So we're off to wilds of NYC from the Burbs of LongIsland to hike the canyon meet up with other *hikers* and celebrate the man who chased all the snakes out of Ireland. (they must have a serious rodent problem there)
On this day last year Lightning Bolt and I stood on Springer and started N.
Today EZ, Mrs. EZ and LB will hike N on the 5 Ave Trail and follow the green blazes marked 44 St, 45 St etc to 86 St then blueblaze back to the Chess and Checkers *Hostel*
Is this entry trail related? Absolutely! I'm tired just thinking about it.
Enjoy the day!
