[at-l] Unprepared hikers required rescue...

It occurs to me that Lafayette claims lives more frequently than
others of the Whites (excepting Washington). Not counting Waterman
who was a suicide, there was Brian Kane in Sept. 1999, died of
hypothermia just at the time of Hurricane Floyd. He was section
hiking the AT.
In the early 80's two MIT students disappeared on Lafayette and their
bodies were never found. NH authorities seem to notice that many
rescues/deaths are college age kids from Cambridge, MA and
surrounding areas. Students join the college outing club and then
tear off for the hills (Harvard, MIT, Yale, Dartmouth). Some are
smarter than others.
Last weekend also had a rescue on Wildcat Mtn. - a couple more Mass.
students not prepared to spend the night in the woods.
