On my NY/NJ hike last month the only people I saw were on the road walks.
The solitude was exquisite. Winter has it's own solitude. It's often
silent except for the wind. Shapes and shades become more important than
color and night is completely monochromatic. I guess it's a form of
sensory depravation. The feeling of being alone in private world is
exhilarating. For me winter is the real world and satisfies my need for
solitude. OK, so I'm crazy. But it sure feels good.
