LOL....... It's not that we blew you off, just trying to save time. I knew I
had to be back here by Sunday morning and the idea of driving more hours than
walking didn't appeal to me. I figured you'd have you hands full anyway
running around and didn't realize it was such a long distance driving, until
I look at someones trail map. We had intended on walking north from Hawk
Mt., but figured we could walk south back to the cars and drive north to meet
you at Gooch Gap, saving both of us time and trouble and that's what we did,
except you weren't there when we were!

Anyway, had a grand time at Hawk Mt. with a mix of southbounders,
northbounders, well wishers and college kids on break and without a clue, all
at the shelter. Tuba Man showed up and played to the crowed and the Barefoot
Sisters sang. Some of them, I had met in previous years and it was like we
never left.

On the way back out (to the car) the next morning, I got to see Fur again,
who was in great spirits even though it was rainy and damp, but beautiful in
the hills, then bumped into a two '97 AT buddies, one that was hiking north
for two months before heading to the PCT. Back at the parking lot, I saw a
friend from the PCT that was doing the AT northbound this year.

Yea, it was a good two days!

By the way, I did see POG driving madly over Woody Gap on her way to Gooch,
gave her a wave and thanked her, but I guess she didn't see or hear me. I'm
sorry to have missed the stew, but I'm sure the hikers didn't mind eating my
share. ; )

Sly
