Mmmm, Mt Race. There are some (somewhat clunky) pictures here for
those of you who haven't had the pleasure.

I recommend the 2 day loop incorporating Mt Alander and the Riga
Plateau area w/ the AT shown on Vic's web page
<http://www.crocker.com/vhoyt/alanrigaloop.html> (Great pages BTW,
Vic). I did it on Columbus day weekend once. It rained the whole
time--stopped as soon as I got back to the car--but it was still a
great hike.
Skeeter, let me know about your Taconic plans, I might not be able to
join you (or keep up), but could possibly shuttle--depending on
schedule/location...
The local word on Mt. Greylock (Bascom Lodge) is the state is still
sending out RFP's (Request for Proposal) to vendors (or anyone)
interested in operating the building. Options range from full
service (overnights, hot meals, some simple supplies) to just being
open weekends w/snacks for the people who drive up there. I thought
the AMC's (somewhat justified, given the State's lack of support)
decision to leave the lodge quite sad, especially when in the same
issue they announced a huge fundraising effort to expand (EVEN
MORE!), including a series of huts in Maine. Leaves us locals in the
Berkshires feeling like po' relations.
