[at-l] Tent competition

I have a Gander Mt. dome that I started out backpacking with. It weighs
maybe 6 lbs, but the fly is about the size of a thimble. Used it several
years, though. Then there was the K-Mart tent that I still love, a 7'x7'
square dome with a great rain fly (window at the back with an overhang and a
little "porch" on front---I like porches). It weighed about 7 lbs and we
used it when there were 3 of us hiking together. Then there was the almost
permanent loaner, a Eureka Sunrise or Sunset, 3.5 lbs, two person (their
feet overlap), that I used until my husband balked at not being able to sit
up. Conscience finally made me send it back to my brother. Next came a
Kelty or Sierra Designs thing that weighs 7 lbs for 2 people, but I got it
on sale at REI, and you can sit up in it and there's no overlapping. Used
one trip because me husband finally decided that he wasn't ever going again,
anyway, and my hiking partner laughed at the idea that it's a two person
tent. Then there's the purple Nomad. Perfect tent. The only problem is
that my hiking partner is going to be rejoining me this year, and I need
another two person tent. Since I've gotten used to the Nomad, I don't want
to carry 7 lbs, even divided, so I'm looking into that Walrus (?) tarp with
the bug screen that was shown in the Backpacker Gear Guide for the splendid
price of $92. And that's my closet full. Leslie (anklebear)
