You may want to try The Franklin Motel.  I left a box down there on my way to 
Springer last year.  The people that run the place are laid back and 
appreciate the hikers that visit.  It's convenient to stores and restaurants 
and the road from the trail, but not to the PO.  I don't have their address, 
but you may want to try information and call them to confirm.

It's usually expected you stay when you mail ahead to a hostel or motel, but 
not always necessary.  If you plan on leaving town right away, it's 
considered polite to offer the owners a small donation for their time and 
trouble, although, most of the time they'll decline.

Although a few hike right through Damascus, if you should happen to hit it on 
a weekend, it's not a bad idea to take a day (or two) off there. The small 
market has a decent selection, the restaurants are good and the outfitter is 
one of the best on the trail, along with the Post Office.
