[at-l] Hiking poles

Saunterer

I, too, have a set of Komperdel, made for REI brand. That have 300+ miles
on them. They are showing signs of wear, but still working well. I would
switch to Leki; however, were I starting a thru.

I don't think most folks recommend Leki because of any intrinsic problem
with other poles or any basic superiority of Leki. Rather, it is a bow to
Mr. Murphy -- i.e., something will go wrong. If it is a bent pole or busted
pole that Mr. Murphy happens to throw at you, Leki can be fixed darn near
everywhere. Usually fixed for free.

I bent the lower segment of my Komperdel, when they saved my @$$ in PA. REI
fixed them for free. However, it was a six-week mail-in deal. Not
something that I'd like on a thru.
