 Ward is still banned from Baxter State Park, his AT banishment ended a few 
years ago, I think. I spoke to the Park Director this January and Ward's name 
came up. From the Park's point of view, Ward has personal troubles about 
which he and his family are not doing all they can do. Ward's had a series of 
run-ins with Park visitors and officials over the years. The 'last straw' 
initiating Ward's 'for life' banishment from Baxter stems from an incident 
where after being removed from the Park by law enforcement folks, he 
immediately went back in.
 I've never met Ward, but I've spoken with his brother and a friend once who 
were in the Whites looking for him. From that conversation, I have to agree 
with the Park's opinion of the 'situation.'
 The rule of thumb on the AT applys here: always be prepared to move on if 
you are uncomfortable with your sheltermates.
