You can make it to Hot Springs in less than an hour, easy.  Davenport Gap 
also.  Erwin and the Smokies are a bit further.  But the Trails, Trails, 
Trails.

Pisgah National Forest has excellent hiking, flowing streams, and hidden away 
places.  Make sure and purchase the North Carolina hiking guide, it is 
invaluable.
