[at-l] 'zona hikers

When I was in REI a coupla weeks ago, I picked up two flyers. One was
for an area hiking group, and the other was an announcement for an AT
presentation by an REI worker. I marked it on my calendar. Last night I
went for pizza with the hiking group. Of course, I met the REI
thru-hiker there. Blaze, class of 2000, 5.5 months northbound starting
in January (if memory serves). Big guy, and he carried a phenominally
huge pack. His hiking partner was a 90# woman who was hoisting 45#. Say
what??!!!!! Said they made 6-8 miles a day initially. Yikes!
