Last summer I was lucky enough to experience the Lamberts Meadow Shelter Rat 
near Roanoke, VA.  My dad and I were nervous about going to sleep because of 
all the horror stories in the shelter journal about people being dragged off 
(anybody watch Princess Bride?...Rodents Of Unusual Size!), and the large 
footprints in the sand.

Well, during the night we heard something dragging along the floor.  We all 
though it was somebody elses flashlight or something rolling around.  Yet in 
the morning one of the guys in the shelter found the Rat hat taken his 
earplugs and had dragged his headlamp across the shelter and tried to pull 
it down a too-small hole.  Somebody said in the journal they had seen the 
Rat take part of the journal...I guess It wanted a light to read by and some 
earplugs to keep out all that noisy snoring from those intrusive hikers!

This is all true!  Ok, I made up the bit about the large footprints.
