[at-l] Esbit
hi
we've used an esbit for a few weeks on the trail. a simple dinner and drink
(no, not steak and potatoes) using maybe about a liter takes us about a cube
and a half. you can blow out the fire whenever to save cubes. they relite.
i like the simplicity and the weight - or lack of weight. the bottom of my
pot did get black and sticky - and do you think i could remember not to pick
it up without my fingers on the bottom.?? icky. i finally got a hunk of
rag and wrapped it when cool for pack stowing. worked for me.
haven't tried this, but soon -- will augment the cubes with little sticks to
see if the fire burns longer. using a windscreen helps a lot. either one
from an msr or one fashioned from heavy weight alum foil from your kitchen.
this is easy to replace too. one fellow last year attached foil right to the
stove and made a little box like affair to contain the heat. he was already
in NH so guess he had experience and success.
there are also military tabs for sale out there, but don't know more than you
practically have to sign your life away to get them delivered to your home.
i believe esbit fuel can be mailed usps too.
happy trails
