The funnels are mounted large end down. It looks like the idea is that the mice slide down the side of the funnel and are propelled laterally far enough that they cannot reach the food bag and thus land on the hiker's face below. I can't say whether that works or not. The only time I have slept in the new Plumorchard Gap shelter, there were no mice. Pity. Merlin
