May be.

Can't speak to owls.  However, I have maintained shelters w/ and w/o
extensive comments in the log about seeing snakes.  I have seen a difference
in mouse droppings when snakes were a topic of discussion -- including the
same shelter, esp. enclosed shelters like Chestnut Ridge.
