"irrational childhood fears"...
I feared that I would be confronted by aliens while alone in the
wilderness, and that I'd embarass myself by not understanding their
language. It was a needless fear, for when it finally happened, I found
that they communicated telepathically, and that they weren't interested
in my language skills anyway.
