[at-l] Mail Drops

Sparrow-

We just got done planning our maildrops. We just set
up a VERY rough outline of where we will be when, and
tried to get a maildrop every 5-7 days. It is no big
deal to strictly stick to your schedule, PO's and
hostels will hold your maildrop until you get there.
Keep in phone contact with your supply person when you
get in towns/etc and that way they will know to hold
up your maildrops if you are seriously behind or
ahead.

You can use one of the thru-hiking books out there to
get PO and hostel info (the Companion or Thru-hikers
guide ).

As far as what goes in it - that is totally up to you.
Some people don't use drops at all and just resupply
in town. Since I like to cook and have a dehydrater,
I've been making alot of our food. That will be the
main thing in our maildrops. Also map sections for
the upcoming trail, journal pages, film, medication,
notes from home, etc.

Hope this helps! Remember, this is just OUR plan.
>From what I have seen, everyone does something
different. You need to decide for yourself what you
need/want to do.
