[at-l] GA RUCK

Oh man I feel so bad. There has been a major change in my circumstances and
our trip is a no go - not to our daughter's to see two of the grandkids -
not to our friend in Tiger, GA - and not to the RUCK. Major disappointment
after all the preps and commitments we had already made to you all and to
others. Clyde, I hope you haven't already bought the turkey. Please tell
me you haven't.

After literally months of excuses and delays, our builder informed us today
that he was going to begin work next week - mid week. Right smack dab in
the middle of our trip. With the amount of money this house is costing us,
I am just not comfortable in letting a low bidder put the footprint down
unsupervised. If he messes this up and the footers go in wrong, we are in
deep doo doo. Later, perhaps not so critical. Right now, critical indeed.

I am totally bummed out by this and sincerely want to apologize for not
being able to carry out the fried turkey commitment I made. Have a good
RUCK. Try to enjoy David Addleton's lamb curry. It will be tough knowing
that you had to settle for second best but I know hikers are tough and you
guys will survive.

Tell ya what I'm gonna do. Right now, right here, I will commit myself to
the next RUCK to be held anywhere in the southeast and not only will I bring
the turkey fryer, the oil, the propane, and the injector - I will also
provide the turkey. All any of you will have to do is simply sit and eat -
or stand and eat if that is your preference. And, as a sign of my sincerity,
from now on until the NEXT Ruck, my signature line will read...
