Regional Representative for Central and Southwest Virginia

Appalachian Trail Conference


The Appalachian Trail Conference seeks a regional representative to
oversee the operations of its central and southwest Virginia regional
office, located in the vicinity of Blacksburg, Virginia.  Major
responsibilities include administering trail-management and -protection
programs and managing the operations of this field office and its staff
of two others (plus seasonals).  He or she serves as liaison to seven
clubs of volunteers as well as federal and state agency partners
working on the Appalachian Trail.  The incumbent monitors and responds
to issues and projects impacting the Appalachian Trail and adjacent
lands and resources and implements ATC programs within a region from
Waynesboro to Damascus, Va.  Requirements: minimum of a four-year
college degree in resource-management or related field or equivalent
experience; minimum of two years of professional experience in natural
resource, outdoor-recreation, or related field; strong verbal and
written communications skills.  Advanced education highly desirable.
The incumbent should have the ability to inspire cooperation among
partners who share responsibilities for the Appalachian Trail, most of
whom are volunteers. The ATC has a good job-benefits package; starting
pay in the high 20s to mid-30s commensurate with experience.
