I left my old cyber ID and all my old messages behind when I retired from
the government in May '99.  Actually that is not totally true -- as I
reformatted the disk when I left.  So, I really left nothing behind on that
machine -- albeit I left them, and my old identity behind me on a number of
servers, but that is a different story.

I rejoined, under my real name, in Jan '00.
