To answer this question is yes and no. The state does own the building and the land
around it but does not pay for general upkeep or repairs. (Unless it's something
big like a new roof or something.) In the past year, the hostel had to shell out a
ton of money just for small simple things like paint which ended up costing a lot
more then I'd ever figured. The shutters badly need repaired along with the hot tub
and that's not mention the wallpaper that has go becase it's looking bad. The park
people do and have gotten on AYH case about somethings that need replaced but
becase it's a nonprofit, there isn't always enough money to go around for all the
hostels in the Phil. district which the Ironmaster's Mansion is a part of. This is
where I hope the Ruck and our fellow hikers can help.
