That was always a big question. The firm in Korea that was the ultimate
buyer was going to finish the chips into packaging as I understand. I
think one of the things that rapidly turned public opinion against the
mill idea was their failure to be forthcoming with specifics. Think about
it, why bring hardwood chips half way around the world when you can make
polystyrene over there. Their answer didn't seem plausible.

Some local activist were the ones who discovered that the chips were
going out of the country. The chip mill folks didn't offer that bit of
information. Among other negatives, this meant there would be no
manufacturing jobs locally or anywhere in the US. They just wanted to
grind up any hardwood tree that was 5 inches in diameter, or larger, into
chips about as big as a quarter and then load them into sea going
containers that would be barged down to the Gulf and thence to Korea.
