[at-l] Sil Shelters in buggy realms?

Ken,
Last summer on the IAT I wore an Original Bug Shirt Elite
<http://www.bugshirt.com/> with long zip off pants almost every day without
one black fly or any other type of insect bite. On the other hand Nomad
wore shorts and had welts all over his legs from bug bites. I even took
naps wearing the shirt, pants and OR shell mittens without one bug bite. I
would be quite comfortable using a tarp while wearing the bug shirt, long
pants and mittens in any type of buggy season. This would include wearing
the hood on cool mornings or during rain. With practice I learned how to
eat and drink without getting pestered or bitten. It didn't take long at
all to grow accustomed wearing the double zippered no-see-um facemask.
>From talking to others one can expect some evening in ME to be in the low
40's in June.
I believe Memorial Day is the earliest for starting a SB'er?
Good Luck

I'm considering a through hike of the AT starting in Maine and heading
south. Most people start in
late June or early July to avoid the black flies and other flying pests.

I'd rather start earlier than later. I would also much prefer to use my Sil
Shelter instead of the
Stephenson tent since it's two pounds lighter. How much of a bug problem am
I likely to have with
the Sil Shelter versus the tent? The Sil Shelter is, after all, just a tarp.
