Even our good old pain response can get to a point where it has no 
purpose--debilitating chronic pain.  And fear can get to a point where it no 
longer has a purpose--free floating anxiety.  Oh the ways our bodies can 
betray us!  I hope I don't get any chronic pain (aside from the pain of my 
chronic illness) or free floating anxiety while I'm on the trail...
