I have to love this thread. Only because I carry a somewhat overweight pack
just because of it's suspension system. It's big, it's bad, it's ugly - but
ya know? I've carried 50+ pounds with it (when that was actually over a
third of my weight) to 40 something (when, sadly, it wasn't a third of my
weight) . . . but weight, schmate. I'm all for the tuckerizing of everything
IN your pack, or even ON your body. But not here, folks. Not in my pack.
If Slider '98 were on this list, he'd back me up - he carried the same pack
(the taller version, him being really tall) on his thru, and he is one of the
few people I've ever read about or met that carried a consistently high
weight on his thru, ensuring a higher comfort zone in camp, while doing very
high miles day, and enjoying almost every mile.

He was in excellent shape anyway - that probably helped. But still - give me
my big suspension system - never had a sore or bruise, never had sore hips,
never cared much how much weight was in it - didn't really impact that much.
(the last trip was an exception - suddenly 6 lbs was the difference between
making the next step or not)

I guess I"m saying - I love my pack. It isn't new, it isn't fancy, it isn't
light. But - I can carry anything in it, I can FIND anything in it
instantly, without tossing out everything that was on top of what I was
looking for, and even if it's only half full, I never feel like I have to put
more in it just because I can. I can arrange those compartments so half full
looks like full ;)

Just my thoughts - and as well you all know, your own thoughts are highly
individual. ;-)
