This is very similar to what I wrote at the time in
the Katahdin Stream register. In fact, I feel that
every "successful" thru-hiker owed their success
to the example and learning offered by those that
didn't make it. Alot of people that ended up getting
off were struggling for quite a number of miles for
a variety of reasons and they kept going for as long
as they could anyway. I miss those people just as
much as the people I knew that finished.
