Can't speak to the Smokies.

However, a bit back a friend of mine hiked into Chestnut Knob Shelter for a
getaway New Years Eve -- only to find ATVers complete with a generator,
kerosene heater, TV set, dbl burner stove, lots of beer, etc.  They were
settling in for a New Years day of Football and beer w/o anyone (read as
"wives & children") around to interrupt them.
