Thanks for the offer.  I have a drill and a dremel tool.!  

I realize it sounds easy.  I just don't want to screw up this
one-of-a-kind hiking stick. So, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.  

I believe the wood is ash.  lightweight yet strong.
