I also think section hiking can be harder in a way too.  You look forward to 
it and work for it for who knows how long, and then when you go your entire 
trip could be rainy/icy/etc.  A thru hiker knows this and expects this but 
will have good days too, but when you only have the luxury of getting out 
there once in a while, ya want good weather, right?
