Re: [at-l] yogi-ing hikers?

I recall some discussions over whether the guides were better than the
Databook and such, and whether the maps are uniformly of sufficient
quality to carry. I suppose one could leave them at home and just
recall which direction you are going, and hope you avoid any 180 degree
errors. I've even seen suggested photocopying the sections you will
cover, and resupply with each visit of the bounce box. I usually scan
the Databook for my sections, print 4 pages to one 8.5x11 sheet of
paper and keep it dry.

I've had people ask to see such in shelter, but not to the point of
being very obnoxious. In fact the only really obnoxious hiker I dealt
with last spring was trying to _give_ me rice cakes, wedding cookies,
dry socks and underwear.

Usually the biggest tuckerizing conflict involves underwear, extreme
first aid gear (Epi-pen with no allergy history), water purification
schemes, Gatorade Powder(T) (yum, yum!), and the like. The folks over on
BPL can get a bit extreme in their quest for the complete sub-15 pound
winter backpack and gear. But I don't recall such shenannigans here.
