[at-l] February starters

One consideration about starting early that isn't mentioned much is the fact
that in February it gets still dark really early. Days are short. That means
that you will end up having to do shorter days or hiking a lot in the dark
and that you will have some very LONG cold evenings. Bring extra batteries
and candles, as well as books and a warm (5-10 deg.) sleeping bag for the
first two months. A friend who started early said he hadn't done that much
reading in years. He also got tired of it, got off the trail in Wesser and
waited for the thruhikers to catch up and left when the mobs started to
arrive.
