I use a Mayan hammock, with a 9x12 tarp stretched diagonallly along the
length of the hammock. I tie a light rope to the same two trees that the
hammock is suspended from and use this as the ridge line for the tarp. I can
hang wet clothes from this line, and have plenty of room beside the hammock
to dress, undress (if you don't like the view, turn around) and to cook.
Tarp and hammock (I bought the biggest one rated for continued use with up to
600 pounds), alond with various ropeds, stakes, etc. come in around 4.5
pounds. This is a pound lighter than the tent I was using, and completely
eliminates the 3.5 pound thermarest that my funky back required for sleeping
on the ground.
