Walden Pond is a great swimming hole. It's a good 1 mile swim across the
length and back... I used to swim there 3-4 times each week.
In case you (or anyone else) is wondering, the site of the house is now well
marked along the (2.5 mile) trail around the pond and there's a replica of
the house near the parking lot.
It is, unfortunately, an overused area that attracts huge crowds. During
hot days, they often have to close the parking lot and turn away crowds for
hours at a time. I can't imagine what it must have been like during the
days when there was an amusement park along the shores. Yikes!! There was
certainly easy access to the pond from the railroad line and that railroad
is still active.
