I can only speak on the southbound aspect of this. Wildbill, or any other
bi-directionals, will have a better perspective on both. My feeling is that the
friendships, or connections, with other hikers is stronger for southbounders.
There are fewer of you out there, so you need each other more. I would also say
that southbounders are having MORE fun at this stage of the hike than a
northbounder would be. Hiking the last month or two is sooooo much easier for a
southbounder. You often hear of northbounders quiting in the Whites, or Maine.
You almost never hear of a southbounder quitttttting south of Damascus. So...what
was my point?
