Re: [at-l] My Proposed Equipment List

WOW...what a well thought out post.

As the the availability or lack thereof of the gear you mentioned, it is a
problem.
The packs you mentioned are hard to come by even for a look see in many
gear stores. If you can wait till January, you will have a chance to see them
in person at the RUCK, along with Nomad tents, I'm sure and probably Kurt,
the designer
owner of Wonderlust. Kurt has recently gone thru a prolonged family
medical crisis and
has fallen behind in production, but I think most here will say a Nomad is
worth the weight
when weight is such a concern.

With the amount of photo stuff and the PDA, I see why you want to go as lite
as possible on the rest of your gear. I don't own a Golite but have tried
to support an
ultrlite pack with a fannypack with mixed results. This is definitely an
area that
would require a lot of testing in my book. Even with abundant natural
padding and short trips,
for me, a heavy fanny pack was a bruising experience. I switched to a
belly bag but
YMMV>

As to the efficiency of stoves, I'd put money on the statement that most
whisperlights
are shipped home in exchange for an alkie stove or esbits by lightweight
hikers.
Again, not to plug the PA RucK, but the stove contest does give a
great chance to check out all the homemade designs side by side. Hey Photon.
you are comin agin this year aren't you? <g> I need to pick your brain and was
waaaay to frantic last year <g>

WM bags are great......
