whence, through long history, two other, more familiar, words: 

Sirius and Serious

The former, a name given to the brightest star in the heavens, was often mistakenly translated as the "dog star," although it originally referred to the derierre of Orion's beautiful consort who wore one and had one ...
The latter has sunk into a piece of redundant slang used more often in urban wilderness areas, than in wooded wilderness areas where one hears it mainly around the summer solstice eg.: "serious ass"
