Re: [at-l] Esbit help



I used Esbit tabs for my whole thruhike.  They very consistently brought 2 
cups of water to a rolling boil in 7-8 minutes time and the tab kept burning 
for a full 15 minutes or so.  I found the reduced heat during the second 
half of the burn did pretty well for simmering a bit.

I used my MSR windscreen with the standard Esbit stove.  One thing I've seen 
some people do that I've wondered about is use a windscreen that too closely 
conforms to their pot.  My windscreen was at least 1" larger diameter than 
my pot.  You need a bit of space there for air to get in.

Make sure the cover to your pot fits well.  Do not check often for the boil. 
  An open pot will probably not come to a full boil, esp. if there's a 
breeze.

I did not break up the tabs at all.  If I was done cooking and it was still 
burning, I would blow out the tab and save the rest for the next meal.
