	Welcome!  I'd go for resupply in Cheshire rather than North 
Adams/Williamstown.  It's about 5 miles from the trail to either PO, 
'tho I'd be glad to shuttle you if I'm not working....Where are you 
starting and finishing?

The Cheshire PO is right on the AT.  Check the hours in the Companion 
(now on line). You do have to carry your resupplied pack up and down 
Mt Greylock, but what's another mountain?   If you plan to stop at 
Bascomb Lodge atop Mt Greylcok give them a call to check their end of 
season closing date (413-443-0011, AMC Info).

Can't speak to Clarendon, Mrs Gorp?

I'm not sure a 12 gauge shotgun, even loaded with 00 buckshot, would
stop a charging bear.
