The letter from Fr. Fred is based on a bunch of erroneous assumptions. It is
written as if NPS was "taking" the whole property. Nothing could be farther
from the truth. In fact at this point the need for the letter is completely
gone since the eminent domain proceeding acted as a wake up call to the
friars that they really have to negotiate. As soon as they agreed to
negotiate the eminent domain proceedings were put on hold.

Both Fr. Johnson (Minister General) and Pam Underhill (NPS) agreed in front
of the press and Sen. Schumer and Rep. Kelly that they are optimistic at
finding a common ground that both can live with.

At this point there is no need to write any letters to politicians. The
negotiations begin on Aug 23rd.
